Meet Yahier
Yahier came into this world at only 32 weeks gestation. He was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he stayed in the NICU for 3 months as the medical staff montitored his growth. He was born with a hole in his heart and suffered from pulmonary hypertension. Druing this time, a social worker from Cottage Health referred him and his family to Hearts Aligned.
After 3 months in the NICU, Yahier was having issues breathing and was immediately transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where he underwent emergency open-heart surgery. He remained there for two months under the watchful eyes of his medical team.
Mom stayed at Yahier’s side 24/7 during his recovery, but doing so came with a tremendous financial and emotional price. She was unable to work while caring for Yahier—drastically reducing the family’s income. Perhaps even more distressing was that Mom had an 8-year old son, Jessie, at home with his Grandma. Jessie would call his Mom every night and plead with her to come home. It was very stressful for the family.
After a tumultuous 5 months, Yahier and Mom are now happily at home with Jessie and Grandma. However, Mom has not been able to return to work because she continues to manage care and doctors appointments for Yahier.
