Alan and Adrian Jr. were born at 27 weeks, weighing only 2 pounds, and were in the NICU since January. They were born without fully developed lungs and were in respiratory distress. They used a neonatal tube for feeding while also learning to use a bottle. Doctors found that Alan had a hole in his heart which fortunately closed on its own.
Mom and dad were at the hospital daily with the boys to hold them, feed them and to provide much needed physical contact. However, they also had 3 children at home that needed attention. With how much time they were spending in the hospital and without knowing how much more time they would spend there, their lives were further complicated. Taking each day “one day at a time” was how they lived.
When their daughter turned 15, all she wanted was the family to go out to dinner together. This is when Hearts Aligned met the family and we provided the family with a gift card for that dinner. As we continue to work with this family, we have provided much needed baby items – dual stroller, diapers, bottles, etc.
