LeAndro

Meet LeAndro

LeAndro was born with a kidney condition (Severe bilateral hydronephrosis) in which both kidneys are unable to drain to the bladder. If left untreated permanent damage to the kidneys can occur. In the days after his birth, an ultrasound revealed a partial blockage in his kidneys and surgery was required.  LeAndro was immediately transferred to Cedars Sinai to remove the blockage.

Traveling down to Cedars Sinai put quite a strain on LeAndro’s mom, Claudia, who also has a 1 year old son. Not much time passed before this situation became extremely exhausting for Claudia. It was tremendously difficult to be in two places at once.

LeAndro’s surgery was a success and he stayed at Cedars Sinai for 3 weeks before being transferred back to Cottage Hospital. While at Cottage Hospital, LeAndro struggled with gaining weight and underwent surgery for a gastrointestinal tube for feeding. After 2 months of being hospitalized and two successful surgeries, LeAndro was released home. Unfortunately, that was 2 months of Claudia not working, which affected her ability to pay rent as she put much of her earnings towards fuel for her car trips to be with LeAndro.

Hearts Aligned was there for this family from the beginning and we were able to pay rent for a month while we continually checked on the family’s well-being and referred them to other local resources from our community. We continue to work with mom providing case management and other areas of assistance.

I want the supporters to know that their donations helped us greatly in a time of great need. We are forever grateful for their support!” – Claudia, mom to LeAndro
