Meet Carlos
Before Carlos was born, doctors told his mother that he would not survive his birth. A few days after his birth, Carlos was diagnosed with intestinal blockage. He had numerous surgeries, but his issues persisted. After thorough testing, he was also diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body.
Carlos was admitted and discharged from the hospital many times, but doctors told his mother that there wasn’t much they could do, and he would not survive.
Carlos has been beating the odds and is almost 3 years old. Recently mom took Carlos to the Emergency Room for intestinal issues and was transferred to Cottage Children’s Medical Center. He was hospitalized for three weeks. Both parents stopped working to be by Carlos’s side. Carlos was discharged but returned a month later and then transferred to Valley Children’s Medical Center in Fresno. Carlos was released a few days.
Carlos is being treated for Cystic Fibrosis, Intestinal Obstruction Syndrome, and Failure to Thrive. Carlos requires constant medical attention and care, which means mom must stay at the hospital or at home with Carlos while dad heads off to work. Dad calls mom throughout the day, providing comfort and encouragement.
Hearts Aligned helped Carlos and his family with rent, hospital food vouchers and gas cards for traveling to and from the hospitals. We have made referrals to the Isla Vista Youth Project and Mother’s Helpers.
Despite the challenges they face, Carlos’s parents remain positive and hopeful, and their resilience and love for one another has left a lasting impression. They remain positive and hopeful, trusting that they will get through this together. They have showed that no matter what challenges life throws your way, the love of family is always there to support and guide you through. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of love, hope, and resilience in the face of adversity.
